Pizza shop puts photos of adoptable pups on its pizza boxes

The Just Pizza & Wing Co. franchise in Amherst, NY, is attaching photos of adoptable dogs onto the lids of their pizza boxes in an effort to help the pups find loving homes. The idea came after Mary Alloy, who owns the pizza franchise with three of her children, began volunteering with the Niagara Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Alloy worked with Kimberly LaRussa, an SPCA event coordinator, to come up with ways to help more shelter animals find their forever homes. Knitters around the world come together to make pouches for Australia’s orphaned wildlife.

People around the world are coming together in an attempt to help those affected the Australian wildfires. Many have donated money, others time, and valuable resources. The fires have had a devastating impact on Australian wildlife, with reports that an estimated one billion animals have died. Watch: 45,000 teddy bears thrown onto ice rink at annual Teddy Bear Toss.

The Hershey Bears collected 45,650 teddy bears and stuffed animals in Sunday's annual Community Aid Teddy Bear Toss. The famous event sees fans throw stuffed animals onto the ice following the team's first goal of the game. The stuffed animals are then collected and donated to around 40 local charities ahead of Christmas. Major UK supermarket bans sales of fireworks out of concern for pets.

Sainsbury's has become the first major UK supermarket to ban the sale of fireworks in all 2,300 stores ahead of the November 5th Guy Fawkes Night celebrations. The decision comes over concern of the distress they cause to pets, local wildlife, and the elderly. The announcement has been welcomed by pet owners and local animal charities. A spokesman for the Dogs Trust said that while fireworks “can look beautiful” they can be “distressing” for dogs and left owners on “tenterhooks” as they’re accessible all year-round. 89 year-old knits 450 blankets and coats for shelter dogs.

This is 89-year-old Maisie Green.     Maisie has hand-knitted 450 dog coats and blankets for abandoned pooches at the The Dog's Trust re-homing center in Islington, UK.
